10th International Workshop on Surface Modification for Chemical and Biochemical Sensing

Poland, 5 - 9 November 2021
Program

During the conference, we will host outstanding specialists in their fields, including the following tutorial speakers:

Philip N. Bartlett

Professor of Electrochemistry in the School of Chemistry at the University of Southampton, UK.

Prof. Bartlett's research interests focus on the electrodeposition of functional and nanostructured materials and bioelectrochemistry. He has developed techniques for depositing tiny amounts of material on the nanoscale and controlling the nanostructure of deposits. Prof. Bartlett has also developed novel structures for electrochemical SERS and used these for DNA detection.

Prof. Bartlett has published over 390 articles, and his research is cited over 18900 times.

Marcin Opallo

Professor and Director of the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw, Poland.

His scientific interest is focused on the electrochemical behavior of suspended nano-objects and reactions at liquid-liquid interfaces. Nanoparticles suspensions are studied in forced convection conditions: at rotating disc electrodes and in flow. For their detection, electrocatalytic, electrodissolution, and redox reactions are employed. Studies of the liquid-liquid interface are focused on oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Scanning Electrochemical Microscopy based methods of determination of the efficiency of these reactions were developed.

Prof. Opallo's research resulted in more than 180 publications, and these publications are cited over 4000 times.

Francis D’Souza

Regents Professor at the University of North Texas, Denton, TX, USA.

Prof. D’Souza’s research interest includes supramolecular chemistry, photoelectrochemistry, photovoltaics, ultrafast laser spectroscopy, electrochemical and photochemical sensors.

At the University of North Texas, Dr. D'Souza enjoys working with both graduate and undergraduate students, mentoring them to become next generation of scientists. He is passionate about using his research to engage in scientific discussions with his group members and collaborators, often attending scientific meetings and presenting his research findings.

Prof. D’Souza’s research is published in more than 470 research articles and cited over 19500 times.

Arkady A. Karyakin

Professor at M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University, Russia.

Prof. Karyakin contributed to the discovery of a new class of conductive polymers: electropolymerized azines. He developed an iron hexacyanoferrate-based electrocatalyst for the reduction of hydrogen peroxide. The combination of an electrocatalyst and an immobilization protocol from aqueous-organic media, also developed by Prof. Karjakin, led to the creation of biosensors with great sensitivity, selectivity, and stability in the industry, as well as in medicine, in particular, in non-invasive diagnostics.

Prof. Karyakin’s research is published in more than 160 research articles and cited over 7800 times.

Gary J. Blanchard

Professor at Michigan State University, East Lansing, USA.

Prof. Blanchard’s research is in the area of interfacial and thin-film science, intending to make interfaces and thin films that exhibit specific chemical selectivity. This work involves designing and synthesizing targeted interfacial systems and their characterization by spectroscopic, microscopic, and electrochemical techniques.  Applications of this work range from chemical sensing and separations through heterogeneous catalysis and control over both linear and nonlinear optical properties. Prof. Blanchard published more than 210 articles, and these articles are cited over 5200 times.

Julea Butt

Professor of Biophysical Chemistry at the University of East Anglia, Norwich, UK.

Her research group studies redox-active metalloproteins. Both to elucidate their biochemistry and explore their rational use for solar chemicals production. A range of methods is employed, including molecular biology, protein engineering, electrochemical and spectroscopic characterizations. Prof. Butt contributes to teaching in the Schools of Chemistry and Biological Sciences through lectures, seminars, and laboratory classes focusing on biochemistry, reaction kinetics, spectroscopy, electrochemistry, and protein structure. Prof. Butt’s research is published in the form of more than 135 articles, and her research is cited 5200 times.

Karsten Haupt

Professor at the Université de Technologie de Compiègne, France.

His current research interests include affinity technology, chemical and biosensors, molecularly imprinted polymers and synthetic receptors, biomimetic polymers, and nanostructured materials for biomedical applications, including drug delivery, medical treatment, and diagnostics. He is also one of the founders and scientific advisors of the PolyIntell spin-off company that commercializes molecularly imprinted polymer-based products for biomedical, food, and environmental analysis.
